The Boston Consulting Group matrix of a hypnosis selling products firm is not something new. There are 4 parts of it. The firm may have a star position with high market share and high growth. It may have a high market share with low growth and have a cash cow position. The high growth and low market share for hypnotherapy products may give a question mark position. The low growth and low share is a dog position.
But the most difficult part is to make an analysis of actually where the firm is lying. You never know what exactly is meant by the market share. Is it no of outstanding shares into market price or the highest market capitalization among different rival firms? These things are difficult to estimate. Also when some dog position firms are available in the market, they give way to stars. If all become stars, what would happen to market share? It’s just like the example of all the students getting equal marks and getting the same position. If that is possible, they will occupy the market. Where would low position holders go for jobs then?
The self-hypnosis product provided may undergo some changes. It may happen that a firm is showing a complete transition from a cow to a star stage or from a dog to a question mark. The transitions are almost impossible to record. Firms need to check each and every other detail of their existing as well as new products to see where they currently lie. Even for those who don’t know how to hypnotize.
